Lauren Achtem

Lauren Achtem is a local illustrator and designer. Making art for as long as she can remember, Lauren enjoys expressing her creativity through playful and friendly illustrations. Lauren is inspired by the magical worlds of Studio Ghibli, Roald Dahl and Disney films, creating colorful, playful work that brings the imagination to life.

Growing up in Vancouver, Lauren spent summers swimming at the pool, splashing at the beach, and creating colorful, messy art outdoors. This summer, her work focuses on amazing, lesser-known animals, bursting with bright colors and personality, like BC’s local hummingbird, flashing its vibrant wings. As part of the Summer Reading Club, Lauren encourages kids to get creative by adding their own illustrations. Her advice for young artists? Draw for yourself and don’t be afraid to start off with tracing! While she works best with a big cup of coffee in hand, she believes creativity should always be fun.

Lauren has written and illustrated a new book, set to be released in May 2025, called, My Mommy is So Strong!, about setting healthy habits for parents and children. Lauren is happily living and creating in Golden, BC, although she would be even happier with a pet Capybara.
